Man Charged With Stealing 123 Parking Meters

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. Cambridge, Mass. police have arrested a man after finding 123 stolen parking meters stashed away in his home.

Police say they went to Thomas Gannon's apartment on Plymouth Street to arrest him Monday night because he was wanted for larceny in Everett.

As they were about to handcuff him, officers say they noticed the parking meters - dozens of them.

The meters were allegedly stolen from streets in Cambridge and Somerville in the last year.

Gannon, 38, was arraigned in Cambridge District Court and ordered held on $5,000 bail.

Police do not know how much money was in the meters. The director of Traffic and Parking in Cambridge told CBS station WBZ-TV's Sera Congi they cost about $300 each, which means it cost the city nearly $37,000 to replace all 123.
